Who We Are

TBF works alongside a diverse network of projects, partners, and community groups to drive meaningful educational and development initiatives. Our mission extends beyond the classroom: while we strive to ensure every child has access to quality education, we also work to address essential nutrition and healthcare needs. By supporting localized partners, we aim to make a tangible community impact, contributing to critical movements like women’s empowerment and social awareness.

This holistic approach guides how we invest our energy as an organization. It helps us deeply understand the unique challenges faced by different communities and underscores the vital role each unique project plays.

What Defines a TBF Project?

We do not restrict our scope to traditional, literacy-based initiatives. Instead, we view all forms of education as powerful agents for social change and empowerment. A TBF project is built upon three pillars:

  • Financial Support: Funding essential educational and community development activities.
  • On-the-Ground Collaboration: Deploying dedicated volunteers to work closely with local communities and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
  • Strategic Partnerships: Collaborating with like-minded NGOs to maximize our collective impact.

Our Activities & Impact

To date, TBF has focused on identifying community needs, researching systemic challenges, and directly funding a core group of sustainable projects. We raise capital through a variety of channels, including individual and corporate donations, merchandise sales (such as T-shirts, calendars, and greeting cards), fundraising dinners, and cultural events featuring Ethiopian classical and popular music.

A proud byproduct of these fundraising efforts has been a growing awareness and appreciation of Ethiopian culture within the United States. Furthermore, our foundation has helped establish study groups and speaker series, fostering robust networks for grassroots volunteers and NGO partners.

Mission & Objectives

The Bitew Foundation (TBF) is a secular organization dedicated to driving sustainable socio-economic change in Ethiopia. Because we believe basic education is a critical prerequisite for lasting progress, our volunteers exclusively support secular projects with strong educational components.

Our Core Objectives:

  • Provide basic education to poor and underprivileged children in Ethiopia.
  • Support individual students by directly sponsoring educational expenses, including uniforms and books.
  • Encourage the formation of local engagement groups in both Ethiopia and the United States.
  • Partner and cooperate with individuals and institutions already engaged in similar humanitarian work.
  • Mobilize the human and financial resources required to achieve these goals.
  • Create meaningful opportunities for U.S.-based individuals who wish to participate directly in TBF's activities in Ethiopia.

Address intersecting socio-economic factors affecting human life, including healthcare, economic development, human rights, and environmental sustainability.
