Education and Library Support for Rural Schools

Our Mission at FANA Elementary

The Bitew Foundation is deeply committed to supporting education at the grassroots level. This dedicated initiative supports the academic and after-school programs at FANA Elementary School, located in Ketemit Village within the North Shewa region. By providing indispensable resources, infrastructure updates, and a dedicated study center, our goal is to deliver the essential requirements of a quality education to a community that needs it most.

Community Background

Ketemit is a small, rural village where the community relies entirely on agriculture and farming. The local school lacks many basic amenities considered standard or minimum requirements in other parts of the world. FANA Elementary School serves 26 students with a dedicated team of 3 teachers, primarily supporting underprivileged children from Ketemit and its surrounding rural areas. Furthermore, reliable electricity remains a critical systemic challenge, with severe, relentless power outages affecting the school throughout the year. This infrastructure gap severely limits the resources available during the standard school day.
